Listen. I want to tell you guys about the Dollar Tree. If you ever need to rebuild your life fast, you want a dollar tree. Everything in a dollar tree costs one dollar. No exceptions. Nothing has a price tag. Everything is one dollar.
This is Dollar Tree not Dollar General.
Dollar Tree looks like this:
Their stuff is off-brand but decent quality.
Here are some things you can buy at the dollar tree for one dollar:
- any kind of makeup- foundation, eyeshadow, lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, etc
Basically? If you ever get kicked out of your house or find yourself with a couple bucks and nothing else, get thee to a dollar tree.
All the dollar tree stores I have been in have some sort of medical aisle too. Its actually where I went first when my tooth broke for some off brand orajel (Works much faster and better than orajel imo, longer too if you put it on a cotton ball and keep it in the area) And sometimes even emergency temp tooth repair kits, which are at least $7 elsewhere. Dollar tree is a miracle.
I love Dollar Tree. When I first moved out this place saved me.
Every 20-something individual needs a Dollar Tree nearby.
Dollar Tree also sells PREGNANCY TESTS and yes they work! Go in and buy like 5 of them, don’t spend $25 on three at CVS, not worth your money and honestly has saved me TONS of anxiety.
Dollar Tree also takes EBT. I nearly cried when I discovered that, because of my strict dietary needs.
it takes years to develop your craft. do not romanticize the idea of an ‘overnight success’. be a student. grow organically. get really good. hate your work. start over. find new ways to express the same ideas. the student becomes the master. your time will come.
Cannot recommend WDHDT highly enough. I’ve found it helpful not just for romantic relationships, but also for growing up w a “unexplainable/uncontrollable” dad.
IT HAS ALSO BEEN REALLY HELPFUL FOR UNDERSTANDING ONLINE MOB HARASSMENT.
So if you’ve ever been bombarded w threats to be raped/killed, (so…if you’re a minority and you’ve been on the Internet for a while), this book might be useful for getting clarity around the whole entitled, abusive mindset that drives certain kinds of people to behave that way. And by “getting clarity”, I mean (for me) being able to go “oh, that’s what’s happening” and not really feel scared anymore. Or angry, or drawn out into it, or anything.
And if you’re still standing around going “but how does something like GamerGate happen?” or “but why do men hit their wives?” or whatever – please read that book and learn something.
^^^^ truth WDHDT is fantastic at cutting down MRA bullshit and calling it what it really is
Please consider reading these. WDHDT is really, really helpful. And I know some of you are struggling with abusive relationships, friendships, families, etc. You’re not alone. There is help.
Yo. This family holiday, please, please take care of yourself. You aren’t there to be anybody else’s cushion.
please make sure that wherever you’re at in life, you don’t treat it like a transitory period. don’t waste your college years wishing to already be graduated & have a job. don’t waste your single years wishing for someone to be in love with. if/when those things come, they will come in due time and they will be good. but there is nothing like looking back and feeling empty because you wasted literal years ignoring what you had because you were hoping for something better. while it’s important to better yourself and reach for your goals, don’t neglect the present because that’s where you are now and it’s your now that determines your future.
One of those “hard to swallow pills” as far as mental health advice goes is stopping negative self talk. I understand that making self deprecating jokes and and poking fun at the topic of depression can be a coping mechanism for some people, and it’s miles better than actually doing something self destructive, but it perpetuates a negative mindset. It doesn’t facilitate any progress to continue to constantly put yourself down, and joking about wanting to die propagates casual suicidal ideation.
I understand that I’m absolutely guilty of indulging in negative self talk. I don’t mean to sound hypocritical. It’s not terrible if you can’t find a way to stop your negative self talk, and you shouldn’t feel guilty about it, but it definitely inhibits any progress towards recovery you could be making, which isn’t ideal. I’m only saying that it’s something that people who struggle with mental health issues should be mindful of.
Please be kind to yourself. You don’t need to over-emphasize your negative traits to be funny or relatable. Sometimes it’s ok to just be.
my shit brain: i’m so bad at this, i just can’t do it-
me, a learning, growing human being whom believes in her own potential: yet bitch!!!!
you’ve been tricked by the education system into thinking that your worth is based on your ability to do the thing Right Now on the First Try, but here’s the big secret: everyone sucks at shit when they first try it, including the people who then get really good at shit. if little baby you had given up on talking because you fucked up on the first try, you wouldn’t know how to talk. and if your favorite singer/artist/whatever gave up because they fucked up on the first try, they wouldn’t have made that thing you love. so stop shitting on yourself for failing and get excited about learning a new skill instead! be bad at things!! have fun being bad at them!! that’s how you get better!!
There was this episode of Monk where he joined a painting class, drew one line, and then despondently said “I ruined it”, and that show may have had a lot of problems but fuck me if I haven’t been going back to that Mood for ten years solid now
god this is a big ask but I really wish there were like….. a site where you could plug in your state/district/whatever and tick some boxes on issues you prioritize and then the site would give you a rundown of the potential candidates in your area and where they stand on those issues in like….. clean simple bullet points. gimme the cliffnotes, I literally do not have the time or energy to comb through god knows how many articles and shit to figure out who to support, just tell me what their stance is on X, Y, and Z, and that’s gonna have to be enough.
It goes through who’s on your ballot and explains things like that based on your address.
this is really great. it gives you bullet points on what each candidate has said and done on each issue.
very illuminating, frankly, seeing the candidate’s own words and actions. for instance, under ‘defense/veterans’ the republican candidates almost always say something about a well-funded military, and the democrats almost always say something about getting veterans the medical care they need. makes it pretty obvious that republicans don’t care about soldiers once they’re done with them.
Obligatory disclaimer: trans people don’t have to have any kind of top surgery in order to be valid. It’s your own body, so you get to decide what and what not to do with it.
& if anyone else has any more good resources or information, please feel free to add to this post!
i understand when ur 13 and u just realized u have a mental illness and ur so relieved to know there are other ppl going thru the same thing as u, its easy to slip into the idea that your newly labeled thoughts and behaviors are normal and okay.
they are not. suicidal thoughts arent normal. violent impulses arent normal. delusions and hallucinations arent normal.
now that you have a name for this behavior you need to seek help. dont let tumblr trick you into thinking unhealthy coping mechanisms are the only ways to deal with your mental illness. dont let it fester, dont let it worsen. seek as much help as you can. actively try to better yourself.
